BLUEBONNET, WILDFLOWER BLOOMS DELAYED BY WINTER STORM

The start of bluebonnet and wildflower season in Washington County will likely be pushed back this year because of last month’s winter storm.

Lu Hollander, Tourism and Marketing Specialist for Visit Brenham, says bluebonnets are just beginning to pop up in some areas around the county, but February’s severe cold will delay most wildflower blooms at least a week, and possibly more.

Hollander expects the wildflower season will be about the same length, as long as weather acts normally.  She also noted that the storm should not affect the health of the wildflowers themselves, just the beginning of the season.

An interactive wildflower watch map is available at www.visitbrenham.com, showing flower locations and safe places to view them and take photos.  The map will be updated regularly as more wildflower locations are discovered.

  1. I’m not sure why you are saying the season may be delayed . Bluebonnets are popping up everywhere and they look much healthier than in years past. Perhaps you all aren’t looking in the right places.
