EARLY VOTING SEEING ‘LOW TURNOUT’ SO FAR SAYS ROTHERMEL

Early Voting for the May 1st Brenham and Burton municipal and school board elections continues.

However, County Clerk Beth Rothermel says they’ve seen a low turnout so far.

As of the end of Wednesday, 597 of the county’s 20,830 registered voters had cast a ballot in the BISD Board Election.  In the City Council election, just 358 of the 8,938 registered voters had voted.

Wednesday, 165 voted in the School Board election, while 105 voted for the City Council.

The contested races for the Brenham School Board include: Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert facing Christine Giese and Jared Krenek; while incumbent Tommie Sullivan faces Michelle Walbeck; Board President Natalie Lange is running unopposed.

The Brenham City Council races feature Ward One incumbent Keith Herring facing Shannan Canales; Place Five at-large incumbent Clint Colby and challenger Allan Colvin; and the Place Six at large position between Leah Cook and Albert Buchanan.  Atwood Kenjura is running unopposed for the Wards Three seat.

Early Voting continues at the Courthouse Annex in downtown Brenham through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Extended hours will be next Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Curbside voting is also available to those who cannot physically get into the early voting polling place.  There is special parking in front of the Courhouse Annex for this.

Early voting also continues for the Burton School Board.  The Burton School Board race features: David Warner, Sr., Boris Jumper, Sr. and Brian Hinze running for two at-large spots.

So far, 24 votes have been cast in that election, with 14 people voting Wednesday.

Early voting for Burton is taking place at the Burton ISD Administrative Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.

  1. I guess all the keyboard warriors screaming about draining.the swamp have been busy. Too busy to vote, too busy to show up to meetings…we are about to get the government we deserve. Again. If you are thinking about waiting until election day, don’t do it! You never know what can happen. Extended hours are coming up Monday for those who can’t make it during the day. If the only the usual people vote, we will get the usual result.
