HEALTH OFFICIALS URGE: SECOND COVID SHOT NEEDED

Area health officials are stressing the importance of getting both doses when receiving the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says about 900,000 Texans remain overdue for their second shot.

Dr. Lon Young, Medical Director at CapRock Health Systems in Bryan and College Station, says it is vitally important to get the second shot, saying some people may be unwilling to get it after having side effects from the first shot.

“We see very miserable people and very sick people for sometimes weeks with the COVID-19 infection,” said Young.

Dr. Young says having one dose of the shot is better than none, but two is ideal. He adds that even if you are overdue for the second shot, you should need to get it.

  1. 90+% chance I won’t get COVID…99% chance I will survive if I do. This is all about money. Pharmaceutical companies have sold 35+ billion dollars in vaccines…with a 30% profit margin. The vaccine is not free. It is paid with taxes…your money. Wake up folks.

  2. Sick people will be “miserable”. Just because its ” covid” why are we coercing people to take an experimental vaccine? Why are we denouncing the fact that other illnesses aren’t as ” miserable”? Stop pushing the vaccine on the public.

    1. Fibe: If you don’t want to take the shot, it is OK by me. However those w/o a shot (unless medical experts say that person should not take one_ need to be on their own, NO Insurance, NO Medicare, No Medicaid!

      1. Let me see if I understand you: As a healthy 40 year old with no risk factors, I should be denied the insurance that I pay for if I don’t get an experimental vaccine that was tested on aborted fetal tissue and violates my religious beliefs?

      2. R.W. – That’s called discrimination and virtue signaling that taking this virus makes you a better person. It’s very WRONG, especially as us who have medical reasons to not take it are being shunned regardless.

And regardless, why should folks be FORCED to take a covid shot when the side effects are mounting to near Tylenol recall in the 1980s (yes different reason, but recalls on the shot happening)?

I know many who are against raking what is essentially a FLU SHOT – the virus mutates, so you cannot be immunized from it, because the risks of side effects are FAR greater.

      3. Do you have any family members who smoke, drink alcohol/wine included, high stress jobs, eat fast food, or don’t exercise? Let’s include them in the no insurance, no medical care, no medicaid category because these people are a greater burden on the system than those who are not going to take an experimental vaccine for a strain of the flu with a 99% survival rate for the majority of the population.

Please consider what you are thinking and educate yourself beyond watching the television.

      1. While Covid-19 MAY have been the third leading cause of death in 2020, the death rate from Covid-19 continues to plummet. Current (as of 17 hours ago) statistics in Texas show a 0.016% chance of dying from the disease. To suggest that Covid-19 is still, and will remain the third leading cause of death is grossly misleading, and ignores empirical evidence about the decline in the number of deaths, and the death rate.
