ISD's new Chief Financial Officer during the
Brenham School Board meeting on Monday.

Following an executive session during their meeting on Monday, Brenham ISD trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Darrell St. Clair for the CFO position.  His official start date is May 6th.

A graduate of Texas A&M University, St. Clair taught for 13 years before transitioning into a CFO role in 2006.  He joins Brenham from Snook ISD.

A press release from Brenham ISD stated that St. Clair received an “A/Superior” rating from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for 15 years.  He holds certifications as a Registered Texas School Business Administrator, as well as TEA certifications in mathematics and computer information systems.

St. Clair said he is “thrilled” to join the Brenham ISD team and looks forward to serving alongside the board, administrators and staff to “ensure fiscal responsibility and support student success.”

Board President Natalie Lange said St. Clair’s “proven track record of fiscal responsibility and commitment to excellence will be invaluable as we work together to support the success of our students and staff.”  Superintendent Clay Gillentine said Brenham ISD is “fortunate to have him as part of our team and look forward to the positive impact he will make.”

Prior to St. Clair, Brenham ISD’s CFO role was held by Robert Lindemann, who was serving on an interim basis following the resignation of former CFO Thad Lasater in the fall.

Update @ 10:45 a.m.: According to Brenham ISD Communications Director Brooke Trahan, Lindemann’s original part-time agreement with the district was for two to three months, due to his retirement status.  However, the search for a permanent replacement took longer than expected, so Lindemann extended his service to assist the district until it found its desired candidate.

Trahan added that the district’s intent is to have Lindemann briefly overlap with St. Clair at the start of May for a smooth transition, but Lindemann’s availability will be limited beyond this time frame due to other commitments.

Gillentine said Brenham ISD is “immensely thankful” for Lindemann’s contributions during this interim period, adding, “His expertise and dedication have been invaluable, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Also on Monday, the board:

  • Received a presentation on staff initiatives to incentivize and improve average daily attendance (ADA).
  • Approved revisions to district policy pertaining to class rankings.  Executive Director of Leading and Learning Sara Borchgardt said the first change is to address House Bill 3803 regarding retaken courses when a student has already passed the course and earned credit.  The new law allows parents to elect for their students to repeat a grade up to eighth grade and repeat any course for high school credit in which the student was enrolled during the previous year, unless the district determines the student has met all requirements for graduation.  The second change clarifies that a student who earns a 60-69 in a dual credit course will not receive high school credit, even though they earn college credit.
  • Adopted a resolution granting the superintendent authority to work with the Pickard High School Reunion Association to negotiate the inclusion of the former Pickard High School gymnasium in the association’s historical site distinction for the home economics building.
  • Approved a progress monitoring system for emergent bilingual summer school.
  • Approved an out-of-state tripe for the Brenham High School MCJROTC to attend the National High School All Service Drill Championship May 4-5 in Daytona Beach, Florida.  The trip is being funded by the MCJROTC.
