BLINN, TEXAS TECH SIGN ARCHITECTURE STUDENT TRANSFER AGREEMENT
Blinn College and Texas Tech University have signed an agreement ensuring that architecture students who begin their college careers at Blinn seamlessly transfer their credits toward a degree at the Texas Tech College of Architecture.
Per the agreement, Blinn architecture courses transfer as the equivalent of similar courses offered by the Texas Tech College of Architecture.
“This agreement demonstrates the spirit of close cooperation between Blinn and Texas Tech, and helps architecture students earn both their associate and bachelor’s degrees,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Blinn College district president/CEO. “Transfer agreements make higher education more accessible, affordable and efficient for our students.”
Successful transfer from Blinn’s Architecture Program to the Texas Tech College of Architecture requires faculty review and approval from the registrar. Only courses with a grade of C or better will be accepted for the Pre-Professional Program. A comprehensive review consisting of grade point average, portfolio, statement of intent and an essay is required.
Designed to give students a foundation in architecture and design, Blinn’s Architecture Program includes rigorous introductory courses in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, hand drafting and perspective drawing. With small class sizes, students receive personalized instruction from program faculty and are challenged with projects and presentations compatible with curriculum at four-year institutions.
Students learn to blend both creativity and practicality for increased proficiency in design, engineering and project management. Courses are designed for a two-year Associate of Arts in architecture or for transfer to a university.
Blinn also has an architecture transfer agreement with Texas A&M University’s Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning Program.
“Many of our students enter the program and aren’t sure if architecture is the path they want to follow,” said Craig Jeffrey, Blinn architecture instructor. “We give them a solid foundation, and our students often decide that they are interested and up for the challenge.”
The Texas Tech College of Architecture prepares professional architects, advances design practice and promotes new architectural knowledge through diverse, creative and interdisciplinary research and education. Architecture is expected to have 18,600 new job openings in the United States by 2022 and is ranked the third best creative job by U.S. News and World Report. Students can expect to earn around $73,090 annually after earning an advanced degree.
Blinn’s Architecture Program is part of the Division of Visual & Performing Arts, which offers 51 courses, including architectural design, drawing, painting, ceramics, digital art, photography, watercolor, music theory, music appreciation, voice study, the Select Choral Ensemble, acting, argumentation, professional speaking and introductory speech.
