BLINN TO RECOGNIZE MORE THAN 450 GRADUATES DURING FALL COMMENCEMENT

  

Blinn College will recognize more than 450 graduates during its Fall commencement ceremony Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Brazos Center.

The graduating class includes 93 honors graduates – 47 of whom will graduate summa cum laude. To graduate summa cum laude, students must earn a 3.9 grade-point average (GPA) or higher. Students must earn a 3.5 GPA to graduate with honors.

The ceremony will include two student commencement speakers – De’Andrea Clark, a Brenham campus student from Caldwell who completed her Associate of Science Degree, and Jamie Conrad, a Bryan campus student from Bedias who completed Blinn’s two-year Legal Assistant Program. Clark will attend Sam Houston State University in the Spring to pursue a kinesiology degree, while Conrad already has a job working for a College Station attorney.

“Blinn gave me the self-respect and the ability to become the person I wanted to be for myself and my family,” Conrad said. “Without the compassion and the resources of this school, I would not be graduating at all.”

Blinn’s academic transfer rate ranks among the best in the nation, and the College has also earned national recognition for affordability. Students who take 30 credit hours in 2015-16 will save approximately $3,500 (40.2 percent) compared to the average Texas public university. The Blinn Foundation also offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available only to Blinn students.

As part of the Service Learning Program, Blinn students have documented more than 456,000 hours of service to the community. The College has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest accolade an educational institution can receive from the federal government for its commitment to service and civic engagement, in five of the last seven years.
