BOARD APPROVES DONATION OF PICKARD BUILDING
The Brenham School Board has given final approval to the donation of building on the old Alton Elementary School campus to the Pickard High School Reunion Association.
The building is the former Home Economics Building at Pickard.
Association Executive Director Loretta Johnson told the board that the association is hoping to preserve the building that she says, “has so many memories.”
Johnson also says the group has plans for a variety of uses for the building, including: an administrative office, meeting rooms, a center for workshops and activities for youth and seniors, and to house a hall of fame.

I am very happy that the “cottage” has been given back to Pickard High School.
When I began teaching at Alton 30 years ago, the main room in the building still had
ping pong tables in it, a few pots and pans, and a built in iron board. I soon learned that
the room had been used for home economics. The storage cabinets and size of the room
made it a wonderful art room, as did the two deep sinks in the back. I also have many wonderful
memories of teaching art in that building for many years. May Pickard High School Association
continue to make many happy memories in that wonderful cottage!
