BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO MOVE FORWARD WITH ANNEXATION

The Brenham City Council is expected to move forward with the annexation of approximately 87 acres of land into the city limits during their meeting on Thursday.

For the past year, the city has been working with Stylecraft Builders on a planned development located along the Highway 36 Loop near the U.S. 290 intersection.

The council has already held two public hearings on the voluntary annexation of the land into the city limits. On Thursday, the first reading of the annexation ordinance will take place.

Representatives from Stylecraft have said the new housing development would include approximately 300 single-family homes ranging from $170,000 to $240,000.

A public hearing will also be held concerning an amendment to the zoning of the code of ordinance. The zone change will allow the property to develop with a single family residential, multifamily residential and commercial development.

Also during the meeting, the council will consider authorizing the acceptance of a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office for the Brenham Police Department to convert to the national incident-based reporting system. The grant is in the amount of $72,800.

During a workshop session, the council will also:

  • Discuss a possible traffic solution at the intersection of S. Chappell Hill Street and Niebuhr Street
  • Hear a presentation of the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library
  • Discuss a removable bollard traffic system in the downtown area

  1. I am always glad to see progress in Brenham, And I never doubted that the city would follow through with Stylecrafts Request for annexation of this property, More Tax Dollars for Brenham, But I do however wish that Stylecraft would build homes that looked a little more distinct in there design, When driving through the Numerous Stylecraft communities we now have here , I think it is 4 or 5 already , first thing I notice is that every other house looks the same, Maybe about 4 different floor plans. and all the home are so close together.

  2. It certainly appears that this city administration and city council puts a stop sign at every corner when requested for no reason at all and for a few seasonal complaints. It is ridiculous to even waste our tax dollars and to entertain these impatient drivers who are ignorant to think that a stop sign will speed things up. Doesn’t this administration and city planner and city council have even an inkling of an idea how this will make traffic stack up from Stone Street to Niebuhr Street during school time? During the summer break, and weekends, the stop sign will be even a bigger nuisance. This stop sign would be equivalent to putting a stop sign on Blue Bell Road at the High School FM road entrance, just because of intermittent school traffic. The city planner should be proactive in developing areas. A right hand turn lane at the corner of the new Burger King would have been splendid idea before the corner was redeveloped. It is time for us to have a planning department that is skilled and proactive and not ignorant and reactive.

    1. I have lived in Brenham my entire life. I have seen more unnecessary planning changes the last couple of years than ever (unnecessary stop signs, inadequate street widths, poor planning of major intersections, etc.). It is obvious the people responsible for these changes are not familiar with the traffic patterns in the city and probably do not even live in the city. I am afraid my tax dollars are being wasted on inexperience.

      1. I’ve lived in several small towns in my life, and I’ve always read the local newspaper and whatever other local news I could find, and I’ve never seen any two (?) people grind an axe finer than you two. OMC is adequate (not perfect), and the right of way at the new Burger King belongs to the state; the city can’t make changes there unilaterally nor force the state to act within municipal deadlines. Please stop disparaging the city staff without backing it up with a formal complaint, or just find something else to gripe about.

        1. Tomorrow Today, you must have me mistaken for someone else, as this was the first time I have expressed my feelings on this site. However, maybe I will need to continue to be outspoken given that my comment has reached an apparent city staffer/official. The point in my original comment still stands, and that is inexperience is rearing its ugly head at the city.

          1. I am in no way affiliated with city of Brenham, developers, or construction. I am, however, familiar with standards concerning rights-of-way and city planning. My apologies for confusing you with another ‘Brenhamite’ commenter who also continually disparages city staff despite the fact that the complaints are either baseless or beyond the city’s control.

  3. Maybe discuss a traffic solution @ BlueBell Loop and Burleson St intersection, This is really bad and desperately needs a traffic light.
