BRENHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO HOSPITAL ALARM

The Brenham Fire Department responded to and automatic alarm at the Brenham Scott and White Hospital at 1:30 this (Friday) afternoon.  Light smoke was reported in a computer room at the front of the building.  Firemen cleared the lobby and office areas of the light smoke with fans and assisted hospital maintenance personnel in locating the source of the smoke.  It was traced to a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit.  While the electricity was off during the investigation, a battery backup in the computer room overheated and generated more smoke in the same area.  Firemen disconnected it and cleared the smoke from the room with fans.  Patient rooms were not affected and no injuries were reported.
