Brenham’s Suddenlink office may soon be closing.  Brenham City Council approved the first reading of an amendment to the Cable Television Franchise agreement that would eliminate the requirement that the local cable company maintain a sales office in the city.  The change was requested by Suddenlink Communications.  The company has undergone a restructuring and the Brenham system is now under their Bryan - College Station office.

Thomas Way, Director of Operations for Suddenlink’s Bryan office explained to the council that the number of customers utilizing the Brenham store does not justify it economically:

Way explained that Suddenlink has arranged with HEB to take payments for customers who pay with cash, although there will be an additional $2 fee. When asked about how service will be affected, Way said that their technicians will remain in Brenham and be dispatched via their cell phones.  He said that with the Brenham system now being under Bryan, service should actually improve:

Brenham’s Cable TV office has been located in the same downtown block since the system was built in 1971.

Update:

On Friday morning, a sign appeared on the door to the Suddenlink office stating that it was temporarily closed.  The after hours payment slot had also been covered over.  No other explanation was given.
