BUC WOMEN FALL TO TEMPLE IN HOOP OPENER

14-Buccaneers dig early hole in season opening loss

TEMPLE, Texas – No. 14 Blinn College women’s basketball dug itself an early hole on the road against Temple College and the Buccaneers weren’t able to get out of it in a 62-49 loss to open the season Tuesday night.

The Buccaneers fall to 0-1 to begin the season but had a solid performance by Ke’Asia Williams with 12 points. Jade Rochelle finished with nine, Karissa Black and Bryanna Taylor each scored eight and Jasmine Redmond finished with seven points.

“We never could get into a groove and we just have to get better,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. “We missed a lot of shots and our defense has to improve.”

Blinn didn’t trail by much at the beginning as Temple outscored 17-16 in the first quarter. Even with the game close, Blinn was unable to grab the momentum and Temple claimed a 35-30 lead at the half.

The Temple lead ballooned up to seven after three at 52-45 and then the Buccaneers had problems offensively and only scored four points in the final quarter. Temple pulled away in the final 10 minutes for the 13-point victory.

Blinn will be on the road again on to face Southwestern Christian College in Houston on Friday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
