CALDWELL RESIDENTS FED UP WITH ROAD DAMAGE
Residents on a Burleson County road say that road is damaging their cars and are asking the county for help.
Residents on County Road 102, just west of town off of Highway 21, say that road has been in need of an overhaul for several years.
Officials say a major strain on the road has been busy oilfield traffic.
Residents say the speed limit is 35, but due to the condition of the road, that speed is too fast.
Precinct 1 Burleson County Commissioner Joe Baldwin says the county is planning to overhaul the entire road later this year.
Baldwin says he doesn't know what the final cost will be but money has been set aside in their budget.
Baldwin says he doesn't have a timeline yet for work to start but believes it will happen before the end of the year.
Stop and look both ways. Brenham is right around the corner from having the worst streets in the Brazos Valley. Brenham once had the smoothest streets is the state. Look at what we have now. If the major thoroughfares weren’t state highways we would really be up a creek. Or let’s say, we no longer would be crossing the creek. It is obvious that the city of Brenham does not spend existing tax dollars for street maintenance. It is deliberate mismanagement of tax dollars and street maintenance management ignorance. It is not the lack of funds. It is the lack of proper use of tax dollars.
I recently saw that a major research effort had been conducted that surveyed mid-sized cities’ managers across the country. The selected cities were all away from metros. The number one problem city managers reported having was the rise of ultra-conservatives who refuse to let cities borrow any money or spend tax dollars.
