CITY PLANNING & ZONING BOARD TO HEAR REQUESTS MONDAY

City of Brenham administrators are recommending the Planning and Zoning Board approve a request to rezone two tracts of property, when they meet Monday night.

The request is for property on Old Mill Creek Road for construction of an apartment complex and retail space.

Blinn Mill Creek LLC is requesting a zoning change from single family residential, in order to construct three separate apartment buildings with a total of 116 units and retail space on the ground floor of one of the buildings.

The complex would be across the street from land where Blinn has already gotten the go-ahead to construct housing for 423 students at Old Mill Creek Rd. and Saeger St.

The Planning and Zoning Board meets Monday at 5:15 at City Hall on West Vulcan Street.

  1. I have been following this story and you should too. This started out as a City of Brenham owned property. I don’t understand all the changes that we see going on; makes me wonder about what we don’t see. I might make it my research project next semester.

  2. So much for the tax paying home owners in this neighborhood. This is low income housing which will drop their property value, not to mention the increased noise, traffic and intrusion of privacy. What’s not mentioned is that these are 3-story buildings that will be built virtually in their backyards.
Already “Recommended”……sounds like backroom deals. Government at it’s finest.

  3. This proposal will over-saturate this area, causing congestion in traffic, people, trash, noise, and cause drastic changes in the floodway in this area. There is a petition being signed and may be available at this meeting against the zoning change.

I, too, was surprised that “city staffers” recommended this proposal, since I was told that “city staff does not approve or deny a zoning change request”.

  4. This hearing must not be meant for discussion, since this variance is “recommended” by administrators. What is the purpose of zoning, if not enforced?

  5. “Zoning Gone Wild” and “the Brenham zoning administrator recommends approval” This is crazy. You are ruining Brenham by not at least requiring a bigger, wider road, before allowing these changes. You have put the cart in front of the horse on a trail that is barely big enough for two carts to pass each other on. It is obvious that Brenham has people making decisions that should not be called planners since they obviously don’t understand what it means. If you drive this road ……..You have to agree…..
