COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ADOPT BURN BAN

County Commissioners voted to adopt a burn ban for Washington County at their meeting this morning.  The burn ban becomes effective at noon today (Tuesday).  Commissioners noted that conditions in the county are extremely dry and the rain that fell Monday was not enough to change that.  Volunteer Fire Departments in the county were kept busy last week fighting several large grass fires.  Other counties in the area have also adopted burn bans including Austin, Brazos, Grimes, Burleson, Lee, Waller, and Fayette Counties.

Commissioners also voted to accept an agreement with PERCOM/Kilgore College for online clinical internship training for EMS paramedic students.  The agreement is the same as one adopted with Blinn College.  The agreement was needed because a new employee with EMS is currently going through the online training with PERCOM/Kilgore College.

In other action, the commissioners voted to keep the optional fees the same for Vehicle Registrations in the county through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.  They also reviewed written reports from several county departments.

This morning’s meeting provided a change of scenery for the commissioners as it was held at the Courthouse Annex, adjacent to the Courthouse.  The meeting was moved because the printed agenda mistakenly listed the Annex as the location when it was released last Friday.

  1. So thankful that Washington County FINALLY has a burn ban. All of my surrounding neighbors are obsessed with burning and the constant smell of smoke in the air is very annoying. In fact as it was sprinkling rain, someone in my neighborhood was burning again. It’s nice to have a break from that constant nuisance.
