HODDE CENTER OFFERING CLASSES IN AUGUST

  

Blinn College’s A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center is offering a variety of career and technical education courses in August covering machining, welding, safety, forklift operation and CPR/first aid.

Fundamentals of CNC Machine Controls, an 84-hour course running from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, through Thursday, Aug. 18, is a beginner course that aids students in understanding and operating modern CNC machines. Emphasis is placed on the safe setup of CNC machines, program selection and making minor adjustments to an active program. Cost of the course is $2,000.

Fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) Course 1 will also begin on Monday, Aug. 1. The 60-hour course meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m., and teaches students safety and skills to weld in the flat and horizontal positions with a variety of electrodes. Cost of the course, which runs through Wednesday, Oct. 5, is $500.

Fundamentals of Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) Course 1 begins Tuesday, Aug. 2. This 60-hour course meets from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and provides instruction in safety, welding and cutting processes, the physics of welding, joints and positions and guided practices with oxy-fuel gas cutting and welding. Cost of the course, which runs through Thursday, Oct. 6, is $500.

Basic Safety and Health, a two-day industrial safety course, takes place from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, and Tuesday, Aug. 2. Cost of the course is $150.

A one-day forklift operator certification course will be held Monday, Aug. 8, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Cost of the class is $115.

A one-day, $75 medication aide refresher course takes place from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, and includes specific training and review in the preparation and administration of medications, documentation, licensing standards, the safeguarding of medications, common drug reactions and side effects and updated and new medications available on the market. Students who successfully complete the course receive an updated medication aide permit from the state.

On Friday, Aug. 12, Blinn will offer a one-day CPR/first aid Red Cross course that provides hands-on skills training to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, and to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The $115 class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. in the Hodde Center.

Blinn will offer four specialty welding courses beginning in August. The specialty welding classes are offered at the National Welding Inspection School in Burton.  Participants can register and pay online at www.nationalwelding.com or at the National Welding Inspection School at 16380 Highway 290 in Burton.

Transmission and Distribution, a 32-hour course, runs from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12. Instruction includes the codes and standards used in the construction of pipelines and distribution systems in the oil and gas industry. Successful completion of the course leads to a certificate for pipeline welding inspection (CPWI+V) from the National Welding Inspection School. Cost of the course is $1,800.

Hydrostatic Testing Training Program is a two-day, 16-hour seminar from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, and Thursday, Aug. 18. The $1,650 course includes classroom and hands-on field instruction teaching the inspector all aspects of conducting tests in a safe and accurate manner.

Automatic Welding Inspection runs from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, through Thursday, Aug. 25, and explains the backgrounds and features of automatic welding for landlines and offshore pipelines, and provides inspectors with an insight in pipe end preparations, parameter control, typical weld defects, weld acceptance criteria and field trouble shooting. Cost of the course is $1,800.

Advanced Field Inspection Program runs from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, and Tuesday, Aug. 16. This new advanced seminar provides instruction on developing, reading and interpreting welding procedures so the student can meet all DOT and American Petroleum Institute 1104 standards. Cost of the course is $1,500.

Students can register at the Hodde Center and may pay for classes by check, cash or credit.
