College Station Mayor Nancy Berry and former city of Bryan Mayor Pro Tem Ann Horton will be officially welcomed to Blinn College’s Board of Trustees Tuesday before viewing the master plan for the College’s Bryan West campus.

Per House Bill 2621, the Brazos County Commissioners Court selected Berry and Horton from Blinn’s Bryan Campus Advisory Committee, expanding the board’s membership to nine. Trustees appointed under House Bill 2621 serve two-year terms through Nov. 30, 2017, and have the same responsibilities as other trustees, though they may not serve as board officers and cannot vote on matters related to the imposition of a tax or the distribution of revenue raised from a tax. Blinn College’s taxing district is Washington County, and the College collects no tax revenue from Brazos County.

Blinn’s board viewed a preliminary draft of the Bryan West campus master plan in September. Developed in partnership with Kirksey Architecture, the master plan draft included a first-phase building designed to service 2,500 students, along with plans for associated amenities such as parking, security and recreational and study space.Blinn Bryan History

The Bryan West campus will be located at 851 N. Harvey Mitchell Parkway and will be developed into a 10,000-15,000 student campus to complement Blinn’s current location on Villa Maria Road. The new campus will allow Blinn to develop additional science, technology, engineering and mathematics offerings and expand its workforce, technical, research and health-related education programs.

Blinn anticipates breaking ground on the property in early 2016 with the goal of hosting classes as early as 2017.  Story courtesy of Blinn College.
