TOUBIN WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION

  

Toubin spent almost 23 years on Blinn Board of Trustees 

After almost 23 years of service to Blinn College and its students, Leon Toubin has announced that he will not seek re-election to the Blinn College Board of Trustees.

First appointed to represent Precinct 4 in 1992, Toubin has served an accumulated nine years as the board’s vice president and four as secretary.

“It has been an honor and a pleasure for me to serve alongside Leon,” said Douglas Borchardt, board president. “He leaves a tremendous legacy as a civic leader who always put the success of our students first.”

During his tenure, Toubin has seen Blinn more than double in size from 8,066 students in 1992 to 19,317 this Fall. With that enrollment growth came a construction boom, including the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex, the Brenham campus Administration Building, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, student apartments and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall. Additionally, Blinn’s Health Sciences Division is housed at the 53,000-square foot Texas A&M Health Science Center in Bryan.

“I want to thank the people of Washington County for electing me to three terms and for all their support throughout the years,” Toubin said. “I appreciate the privilege I have had to serve on this outstanding board of higher education, and I thank the board members I have served alongside with over the years, as well as the administration and faculty.”

A lifelong resident of Brenham, Toubin attended Brenham schools and Blinn College and is a graduate of the University of Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to Brenham in 1954.

After being active in the retail dry goods business with the New York Stores, he later became owner of Toubin’s Inc., which operated nine stores in South Central Texas. Later he became involved in real estate development and managed a real estate partnership.

Toubin’s civic leadership has included serving on the boards of Trinity Medical Center, the Brenham Economic Development Foundation, Camp For All and the Grievance Committee for the State Bar of Texas. He is also a member of the Brenham Rotary Club, a life member of the University of Texas Ex-Students Association and the American Legion, and is a Mason and a Shriner.

Toubin is married to Mimi Pasternak Toubin, and together they have three children and six grandchildren.
