WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVE PLACEMENT OF SIGNS

The Washington County Commissioners approved the installation of “No thru Truck" signs on Hauptrausse Road on the west side of the intersection with Koether Road in Carmine.

City of Carmine mayor Jerry Knox told the commissioners that their budgets for roads has already been used for the year trying to repair the damage that the large oil trucks traveling though Carmine have caused.

The Carmine area has a lot of oil patch activity, and these roads are the ones most traveled by the trucks.  The roads are very narrow, causing issues with two large trucks trying to pass each other.

The Carmine City Council still needs to approve the measure, and Commissioner Joy Fuchs asked the mayor to inform the Washington County Commissioners when the proposal is approved. The signs will not be installed until the approval is obtained.

The Commissioners also approved the proclamation of May 2-10, 2015 as Travel and Tourism Week and May 5, 2015 as Travel Rally Day in Washington County. Lu Hollander and Jenny Mills from the Washington county Convention and Visitors Bureau were present to accept the Proclamation.

Also approved was a Memorandum of Understanding between Blinn College and Washington County for high speed network and transport services.

Washington County and Blinn College share services with the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, sharing their IT room. The commissioners expressed their appreciation for their ability to use these services.
