WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING

  

Washington County Commissioners proclaimed April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month at their meeting this (Tuesday) morning .  Johanna Fatheree, President of the County Child Welfare Board, stated that currently there are no available foster families in Washington County and that the county has 32 children in foster care, most having to be placed in other counties.  She stated that Washington County is in desperate need of families willing to become foster parents.

Commissioners also proclaimed April 5th as a Day of Recognition for the Senior Corps Volunteers of Washington County.  Mary Martin accepted the proclamation on behalf of the RSVP organization and stated that they are partners with CASA for Kids program and Citizens on Patrol.

In other action, the commissioners approved a grant application to the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool from Washington County EMS.  If granted, the funds would be used to purchase ballistic gear for all of the county EMS personnel. The gear is designed to be put on while the EMS personnel are in transit to a dangerous call.

The commissioners also approved an agreement with Tyler Technologies for new financial software for the county.  The county started the selection process back in 2006.  The new software will handle the county’s income, expenditures, payroll, and budget.  It is expected to be in place the first quarter of 2017.

The commissioners also approve an Interlocal Agreement with the Brazos River Authority to participate in the Lower Brazos Floodplain Study.
