13 LONGHORN FOOTBALL PLAYERS TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

The University of Texas athletics department announced Thursday that 13 of its football players have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are "presumed" to be positive for the disease.

According to a university statement, all 13 players are now in self-isolation, while 10 others who came into contact with them are self-quarantining.  Additionally, four others tested positive for coronavirus antibodies.

About 67 players returned to the campus on June 8th and workouts began this past Monday. A second group of about 47 players were set to arrive this week, with their workouts set to begin Monday.  A third and final group of the school's 17, 2020 signees will be allowed to practice after each one "receives clearance from the Sports Medicine team" and completes "mandatory education requirements."

Earlier this week, Big 12 teams were cleared to start voluntary workouts. On Tuesday, Baylor University, whose football team is scheduled to begin its season on Sept. 6, announced that three athletes tested positive for COVID-19. Fifty-nine students were tested, Baylor said, and all resided off campus.

Texas Tech announced Monday that student-athletes from its football, men's track and field and women's basketball programs have tested positive for the virus. Texas A&M and Houston have also announced positive test results, and Houston went so far as to suspend workouts last week after six athletes with symptoms of COVID-19 tested positive last week.
