BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD HEARS REVIEW OF BOND PROCESS

The Brenham School Board heard a report on the legal requirements to issue a bond during their noon meeting Monday.  Sarah Langlois and Liz Rice from the KBS law firm reviewed for the board some of the legal requirements in a bond issue.  Brenham Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said after the meeting that the review was for bond issues in general, but that they are looking at the Junior High School in particular, since it is the school district building that is most in need of replacement.

Langlois and Rice took the board though the process from design, procurement and construction.  They outlined the options available and the pros and cons of each.  They talked about the construction manager at risk verses the competitive sealed bid options and the gamesmanship sometimes played by the construction manager on a site.  They said it was good that the board was bringing them in early in the process, so that costly mistakes were not made.

In the only other item on the agenda, the board voted to approve extending the release time by one hour on the last day of school this year.  The release time on May 27th will now be 1:00 PM.  Superintendent Chaplin explained that the late start time instituted for the snowy weather several weeks ago put the district below the mandatory number of hours from the state.
