Baylor Scott & White Health is urging patients to only use the emergency room in urgent situations.

In a statement, Baylor Scott & White said, “In light of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, please keep in mind that our emergency room (ER) is for those needing higher levels of care.”

The healthcare system said reserving the ER for medical emergencies will “ensure our facilities are ready for those who need care most during this time.”  It also encouraged the community to get vaccinated, get boosted, practice social distancing and wear a mask.

Anyone needing to get tested for COVID-19 and is asymptomatic or has mild symptoms can visit or call 877-541-7905.

  1. My daughter was in the ER for a mental health issue. The available facility for her intake was an hour away and I would be transporting. I left the hospital at 1 in the morning with the approval that she would be able to remain in the ER until I was able to safely transport her. Shortly after 7, I was contacted that I would need to come and get her as they had no room for her and they were doing construction. I was given a deadline of 8:15 to be there. Nurse then said I had until 8:45. I received calls in between that time to come pick her up. Had my daughter call me as well. My daughter was even threatened with the ER calling the facility to which she would be going to come pick her up. When I did arrive at 8:45 into the hospital, there was not a single car in the ER parking up front, and 2 cars only in the side area. Where were those patients that room was needed for? When my daughter was released to me in the waiting room, the nurse denied saying anything about the construction, which was blatantly untrue. My daughter also heard her say she needed to have someone get her out because of the construction. Wondering if the hospital didn’t want to deal with a patient with a mental health issue? My daughter initially wanted to go to the ER in College Station. I convinced her to go to Brenham’s hospital ER. Rest assured should we find the need to go to the ER again, it will not be in Brenham.

  2. Doesn’t ER stand for Emergency Room? Sad it became a place for people with sniffles, many illegal, to come for free service. This statement should be forever

      1. Simple enough. Here’s how it is affecting Texans, but there is a plethora of information on how illegal immigrants worldwide have a huge financial impact wherever they visit any Emergency Department. Illegal immigration costs everybody except the illegal immigrant, who receives services and benefits with no financial burden. A quick Google search will answer your question.

  3. I certainly understand that people may abuse the ER dept of any hospital. However, I have to address the lack of medical help in this community. It is almost impossible to get an appointment with a physician, especially during this rampant pandemic. If you are feeling really sick, you “want help” and “deserve help” !. To my knowledge, we do not even have an urgent care, anymore, in this town. I am truly disappointed in Baylor Scott and White. As a retired medical professional, I am very aware that a good hospital and clinic is a necessity for any town to thrive. As they say, “if you build it, and provide proper service, they will come.” BSW bought out the Brenham clinic and hospital, and has done nothing to improve the access to health care in this community. The hospital is antiquated, dirty and understaffed. If BSW built a decent hospital here, maybe they could attract more doctors. Medical care in one thing that people will always need, and Brenham does not provide that. Why can’t we as citizens demand better . Why can’t BSW see that they are failing. Certainly they can afford to build a medical center that would be an asset to Brenham and the surrounding communities.

    1. Bellville Medical Center ER offers the same level of emergency services as BSW with less waiting and a more compassionate staff.

    2. Yes it’s beyond ridiculous that a town of this size doesn’t have an urgent care or walk in clinic anymore. Have to drive to a much much smaller town Bellville if you want to walk in no appt. And you’re right it’s so hard to get an appt anywhere. This town is seriously lacking in health care!
