The Washington County Farm Bureau elected directors, handed out an award, and heard from legislators at their 79th Annual Meeting that was held this past Thursday.

Re-elected to three-year terms on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors were Don Wellmann of Washington, Milton Hueske of Brenham, and Larry Winklemann of Burton, who currently serves as board president.

Meanwhile, board members presented Steven Bliznak with the 2023 Outstanding Farmer and Rancher Award.  Director Russell Borgstedte cited Bliznak’s lifetime involvement in agriculture as helping him to garner the award.

Texas Farm Bureau Associate Director of Legislation Joy Davis, District 12 State Representative Kyle Kacal, and Andrea Fischer from State Senator Lois Kolkhorst’s office made presentations urging everyone to vote for Proposition One in the November 7th Texas Constitutional Amendment Election.

Proposition One has to do with protecting the right to engage in farming, ranching, timber production, horticulture, and wildlife management.

Kacal also encouraged everyone to support Proposition 6, which would create a Texas Water Fund to assist in financing water projects in the state, and Proposition 9, which would authorize a cost-of-living adjustment for the Teacher Retirement System.
