BRENHAM HOME HEAVILY DAMAGED IN FIRE

A home in Brenham suffered major damage after a fire late this (Wednesday) morning.

The fire broke out shortly before 11:30 a.m. at a two-story residence at the corner of West Lubbock Street and Westwind Drive.

Interim Brenham Fire Chief Rhea Cooper said the occupants were doing work in the garage when the fire started.  According to Cooper, the fire spread from the garage into the house after a fuel tank on the family’s car ruptured.

The Brenham, Meyersville and Salem Fire Departments all responded to assist.  Units remained on scene into the early afternoon.

All family members were able to escape the house without injuries and were outside when firefighters arrived.  Two pets were still inside; firefighters were able to rescue the family’s dog, but the cat did not make it out.

Cooper said the garage was a total loss, and there was heavy damage to the ground floor and second floor of the home.

Faith Mission was on scene with the family to provide them assistance with temporary housing and other needs.
