BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER SELLING LAND TO TxDOT FOR CLOVERLEAF PROJECT

A possible land sale pertaining to the overhaul of the Highway 290 cloverleaf interchange will be among Thursday’s main topics of discussion for the Brenham City Council.

Councilmembers will meet in executive session before potentially acting in open session on the sale of 0.0143 acres of land to TxDOT for the cloverleaf project.  City officials say the land is located at the southwest corner of Highway 290 and Westwood Lane.

TxDOT held a public hearing in January to provide an update on the project, which will build a new interchange at the intersection of Highway 290 and Highway 36.

The project has an estimated cost of $233 million.  Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2027.

Prior to talks on the cloverleaf project, the council will hold a work session to hear the police department’s 2023 racial profiling report and receive a presentation on the city’s charter.  The charter document must be reviewed every five years, and if the council wishes to make amendments to the charter, a special election would be held in May 2025.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.

  1. Now it makes sense why the city council voted on this particular plan for the expansion. They had land to sell that would otherwise never sell. I smell a conflict of interest .

  2. So build the flyover, that fine and will not effect traffic on the cloverleaf it works perfectly fine as it is and there’s no need to waist tax $ that could be used to fix the rough streets in town that belong to the state. only issues i have seen on the cloverleaf that the flyover will eliminate being less traffic the also the only other issue i’ve seen mabey EMS can use the proper loop to run out west instead of coming up the town exit and cutting across traffic to turn left on top of the hill causing to back and yield to them

    1. Sure. EMS should use the proper loop at 5 PM on a holiday weekend Friday and sit in traffic for an extra 5 to 10 minutes while you or your loved one are out west in need of emergency care. That makes a lot of sense. And the law states that you are always to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle displaying lights and/or sirens, regardless of where you encounter them.
