BLINN VOLLEYBALL OUTLASTS TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE

BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 16 Blinn College volleyball team (25-2, 1-1) outlasted Tyler Junior College, 3-2 (25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 16-25, 15-9), on Friday night in the Kruse Center for its first conference win of the season.

“This was a huge win for us and the girls bounced back really well from last week,” said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach. “Tonight’s win was a team effort and everybody from our bench to our entire team did their job. This was one of the best matches we played all year.”

Three Buccaneers led on offense with double-digit kills. Taylor Henderson recorded 16, Paige Havel tallied 13, and Essence Clerkley recorded 12.

Kya Yanez and Giulia Hortelan led the Buccaneers with 14 digs each, while Jenni Liu pitched in 13 digs and 37 assists. Havel led Blinn with five blocks and four block assists.

Blinn opened the match with a 2-0 lead after defeating the Apaches 25-20 and 25-15. The Apaches fought back to even the match 2-2 by downing the Buccaneers 26-24 and 25-16. Blinn took back the momentum in the fifth set for a 15-9 win to walk off the court with the victory.

Next, Blinn will host Panola College on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. in the Kruse Center.
