Kilgore ends Blinn's 2021 campaign, 86-75

 

The Blinn College men's basketball season ended Thursday night as the Buccaneers fell to Kilgore College, 86-75, in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament in the John Alexander Gymnasium.

With the loss, Blinn ends the season with an 11-11 overall record after going 8-10 in Region XIV regular season play.

"I give credit to our guys because they never stopped playing and competing, and that is something I am proud of," head coach Scott Schumacher said. "Kilgore is a really good basketball team and they played really well."

On offense, Calvin Carpenter scored a team-high 16 points, Davion Coleman followed with 14, Tyler Washington scored 12, and Austin Galuppo scored nine, while Braelon Seals led with five assists.

Kylon Owens and Carpenter led Blinn's defense with five rebounds apiece, while Washington had four rebounds, and Washington led the Buccaneers with three steals.

The Rangers built a 46-29 lead in the first half that they were able to hold on to for the remainder of the game. The Buccaneers came back in the second half to outscore the Rangers by four points. Behind 78-59, the Buccaneers went on a 12-0 run to trail by seven with less than a minute remaining. Kilgore was able to end the game on an 8-4 run for the win.
