AUSTIN CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS BUDGET

Austin County Commissioners will continue to work on the proposed county budget during workshops Monday in Bellville.

Based on present budget requests, Austin County could see an almost 8 percent budget increase over this year.  County department heads have requested just under $16 million for 2017-2018.  That’s more than $1.1 million dollars above the current budget, and includes a three percent raise for county employees.  Due to increased property valuations in Austin County, the current tax rate of .5435 per $100 valuation would bring in more than enough money to fund the proposed budget.

Following the budget workshops, Austin County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the budget on Monday, August 21st at 9 a.m.
