CONSTRUCTION ON BRIDGE 1948 MEANS ONE-WAY ROADS FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE

Commuters in the area will continue to see one-way roads on Highway 36 and Bridge 1948 near Somerville for the foreseeable future.

Bridge 1948 sustained structural damage during the spring flooding. TxDot Area Engineer Mark Shafer says what looks like one bridge is actually two:

The project is tentatively scheduled to be awarded to a contractor in June of 2017. Schafer explains why it is taking so long to get the project completed:

Once the utilities are moved and they get environmental clearance on the bridge construction, TxDot will have a firm date on how fast they will be able to accelerate the work.
