COUNTY, BURTON SALES TAX REBATES UP; BRENHAM REBATES DOWN

  

Washington County and the city of Burton experienced increased state sales and use tax distributions, but Brenham showed decreasing numbers through June.

Washington County’s rebates increased by 3.4 percent over May of last year, with a total refund of $227,991 – compared to $220,486 in May 2017.

So far in 2018, Washington County has received $1,418,896, up 6.5 percent from the $1,331,942 over the same period a year ago.

Brenham’s rebate totaled $463,936, down 12 percent from last year’s $528,525.  For the year, Brenham has received $3,181,226, down 1.5 percent from 2017’s $3,231,594.

Burton experienced a 22 percent increase on their rebate, receiving $6,201 this past month, compared to last year’s $5,077.  So far this year, Burton has received $35.807, up 8 percent from last year’s $33,124.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that total sales and use tax distributions are up by 11 percent across the state, compared to this point last year.
