FORMER BRENHAM VET FILES APPEAL

Kristen Lindsey

A former Brenham veterinarian has appealed her suspension for killing a cat with a bow and arrow.

Kristen Lindsey was fired from a Brenham veterinary clinic after she posted a picture on Facebook of her holding up the cat with an arrow through its head – a cat Lindsey says she believed was feral.

Lindsey is appealing her suspension, which was handed down last October by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Lindsey’s license was suspended for five years but the board said she could practice on a probationary basis after one year of full suspension.

District Judge Karin Crump earlier this month denied a request, from Lindsey’s attorneys for a temporary restraining order that would allow her to practice during the appeal.

.Lindsey is also appealing a ruling by Crump dismissing a lawsuit challenging the state board’s authority in the case. That appeal is now before the state’s Third Court of Appeals.  That case has not yet been set for trial.

  1. Warden of the Wild, I do not feed the feral hogs, I have a pen around my feeder. The tpwd wrote an article a few years back on the leading cause of death among deer, bcause the peta people were raising all kinds of stink over deer hunting. It was determined by tpwd that the number one reason of death was starvation..

    1. Gratifying to hear you’re responsible with your feeders; sadly you are one of the vanishingly small number of hunters that are. Thanks for the info, I’ll look for the TPWD article.

  2. The first wrong thing she did was to put it on facebook, people see it and run with it. Second, yes she has paid the price for it now let her go on with her life. And third for Journey47, I am a hunter and do “bait” the deer, do you know what the #1 killer of deer are? Starvation! Not people. I will continue to “hunt”.

    1. You’re not baiting the deer, you’re feeding the feral hogs. Starvation? Please tell me what authority provided you with this fact?

  3. I’m one of those liberal, animal loving, tree huggers but I do not get more upset over someone killing a feral cat than someone killing a child. I think I speak as well for my like-minded peers. There is a very big difference in killing an animal and killing a child and I find 3reds ill-conceived opinion that anyone who loves animals or trees would think such a thing to be repugnant. I actually thought the young vet’s sentence was overly harsh. I don’t consider her offense as egregious as hunters setting up deer stands and baiting deer, killing them when they come to eat and then calling it a “sport.”

  4. Man somebody must have some deep pockets to keep the attorney filing suit in district court and now with the 3rd Court of Appeals.

  5. As offensive an act that was done by this young woman, She has paid for her mistake, People deserve a second chance, It is clear she has remorse and has realized what she did was wrong, She should not have to pay for this her whole life. Who among us can honestly say that we have never made an error in judgement? Very few I am sure. Maybe she could be reinstated as a Vet, But be made to do some sort of mandatory animal cruelty awareness program, maybe she could speak about her experience and mistakes to help others see that this type of behavior was wrong, that may prevent other animals from being harmed, We all remember Michael Vick, He went to jail paid for his mistakes and was allowed a second chance, This woman deserves another chance as well.

    1. She IS getting a second chance. She can start practicing again on a probationary basis after one full year of suspension, then four more years of probation and she’s done. With all of the media hype surrounding this case she’s lucky to get that sentence and not a permanent suspension. She’s certainly getting a bad deal for shooting a feral cat, but she could’ve had her license permanently revoked. If she still feels wronged, I agree, she should appeal, but in today’s day and age, with all the liberal animal loving tree huggers who get more upset that someone killed a feral cat than someone killed a child, I think she’s very lucky to get off without a permanent suspension or jail time.
