BURTON ISD TO HOLD EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING AUGUST 1ST

Burton ISD will soon offer screenings for the Early Childhood Program.

The school district, in cooperation with the Burton Special Services Cooperative, will screen children in the district for the program.  The children need to be either three- or four-years-old on or before September 1, 2019.

The screening will help both parents and teachers determine a child’s readiness for kindergarten.  Professionally trained individuals participating in the screening include special education teachers, teacher assistants, counselors, educational diagnosticians, and speech therapists.

Approximately an hour will be needed to complete the screening, which includes questions and activities in the areas of fine motor, cognitive-verbal, and gross motor skills.

The Early Childhood Program is designed to help children who do not have the skills necessary to be successful when entering school.  It is not intended for students who are meeting normal developmental milestones, or for children whose only needs are to learn to speak English.

The screening will be held Thursday, August 1st from 9 a.m. to noon at Burton Elementary School, located at 12504 Cedar Street.
