BRENHAM PLANNING AND ZONING ASSIGNS ZONING FOR PROPOSED ANNEXATION TRACTS

The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission assigned zoning classifications to the land being considered for city annexation at its meeting Monday.

Development Services Director Stephanie Doland talks to the Planning and Zoning Commission about the tracts of land under consideration for annexation.

The commission voted unanimously to assign industrial zoning to roughly 44 acres of land at the intersection of FM 389, FM 332, and Industrial Boulevard; and single-family residential zoning for 6/10ths of an acre at Scenic Estates, adjacent to the west side of Old Masonic Road.

Commissioners followed the recommendation of city staff to not move forward with annexing roughly 194 acres on the east side of Farmers Road—between FM 389 and Old Mill Creek Road—and the north side of Old Mill Creek Road—between the current city limit line and Jackson Creek.

This followed a recommendation given by City Manager James Fisher to the city council at its first meeting this month to hold off on pursuing the tract until next year. Fisher said at that meeting that city officials needed more time to visit with residents and better understand costs involved.

Following a question from Commissioner Lynette Sheffield on why the city was looking into the sub-195 acre tract, Development Services Director Stephanie Doland explained the city’s thought process for looking into certain areas for potential annexation.

No one spoke during the public hearings held before commissioners took action on each of the tracts.

Also in session Monday, commissioners approved:

  • Changing the zoning of just under 2/10ths of an acre at 406 Church Street from mixed residential use to commercial research and technology use. The property was recently acquired by the Bank of Brenham, who is looking to demolish the current residence on the property and use the lot to provide additional parking for customers and employees.
  • A replat of the Parkview Addition to remove formerly dedicated unimproved Parkview Street right-of-way and parkland dedication. The replat was requested by Beverly Love on behalf of the Boettcher Building Center, to allow for future development of approximately 3.9 acres west of Burleson Street and south of Pleasant View Avenue.
