After a five-year absence from the Big Leagues, Bellville-native Lucas Luetge is back and making a difference with the New York Yankees.

Luetge, who pitched four seasons with the Seattle Mariners (2012-15), had become key member of the Yankees’ bullpen, appearing in 15 games so far this season.

In his 15 appearances, the 2005 Bellville High School graduate has a 1-0 record with a 2.95 earned run average, 19 strike outs in 21 innings pitched and a 0.94 WHIP.

After his release from the Mariners at the end of the 2015 season, Luetge spent time in the minor league with five organizations (LA Angels, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Arizona and Oakland).

He signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees as a non-roster invitee.  After a strong showing in spring training, Luetge was selected for the team’s opening-day roster.

After graduation from Bellville High School, where he was a two-time district MVP and an all-state selection, Luetge was a two-year starter at San Jac.  He then went on to Rice University where he was on the 2008-09 Owl teams.

He is the son of Rocky and Melissa Luetge of Industry.

The Yankees take on the Texas Rangers in a four-game series, Monday-thru-Thursday.  Tuesday night’s game is on ESPN, while Monday, Wednesday and Thursday’s games can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest – Suddenlink Cable Channel 38.
