BRENHAM RESIDENTS SEE INCREASE IN LATEST GAS BILL

CITY SAYS BILLS LARGER DUE TO HIGHER GAS MARKET PRICES, MORE CONSUMPTION

City of Brenham customers may notice an increase in their most recent gas bill.

Some residential customers have reported paying $100-125 more in their latest bill from the previous one.

City officials say this is due to natural gas market prices for the month of February rising 38 percent from January.  In addition, they say gas consumption for most customers was higher due to colder weather in late January and February.

City Manager Carolyn Miller said gas supply and pipeline transport costs are also higher under contracts with Twin Eagle and Oasis Energy Transfers, which went into effect on November 1st.

Public Utilities General Manager Debbie Gaffey said the cost of the city’s gas is a commodity cost, so it changes every month.  The city pays the market cost to the supplier and then recovers the cost from the customer.

Gaffey said residents can expect prices for their next billing cycle to decrease heading into the spring, but she noted that the current situation in Ukraine could have an effect in the future.

Anyone with questions about their bill can contact Utility Billing, with their account number, at ubilling@cityofbrenham.org.
