BRENHAM CITY OFFICIALS CONTINUE TALKS ON SIGN ORDINANCE, METAL HOUSING

Brenham’s Planning and Zoning Commission, along with members of the community, discussed the city’s sign ordinance and metal exteriors for housing at a workshop meeting this (Monday) morning.

A small crowd joined city staff members at City Hall, as they went over feedback received regarding a planned update to the sign ordinance.

Assistant Development Services Director Stephanie Doland said the city has gotten many comments regarding the ordinance, particularly concerning appropriate size and height for ground signs.  She said height requirements are being amended, based on public feedback.

Doland said she hopes to have a second draft of the ordinance available for the public by the end of February, or by early March.

Planning and Zoning Commissioners also continued talks on an ordinance amendment to possibly prohibit large metal buildings as housing in residential areas.  Commissioners considered the ordinances of cities like Bryan, Bastrop and Fulshear, and what those cities do in regards to metal housing.

One of the proposed ideas at the meeting included fully allowing metal exteriors in select residential districts.  Another idea was to allow all districts to have some metal housing.

Doland noted that the city is continuing to do research on an amendment, which will discussed further at next Monday’s Planning and Zoning meeting, to be held at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall.
