BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNIZES PEOPLE / GROUPS

  

The Brenham School Board took time at their meeting Monday evening meeting to recognize a number of individuals and groups that contributed to the students in the district.

This month’s “You Make a Difference Award went to Vianey Olvera, Marcaria Olivarez, Maria Cecilia Rivera, and Edith Gutierrez for their contributions to the first Culture Night at Brenham Cub Soccer.

Ben Seeker of the Brenham Veterans of Foreign Wars presented the VFW District 17 Teacher of the Year Award to Madison Ruiz of Brenham High School.

Members of the 6th grade First LEGO Research and Competition Teams explained to the trustees their meet in Austin this past weekend.

Neil Krebs explains to the trustees his experience with the Watch D.O.G.S. program.

Several dads and grandfathers who have volunteered with the new Watch D.O.G.S. program explained how successful it has been.  The program allows dads who have passed a background check, to patrol the hallway and assist in classrooms at their student’s school.

Kim Weatherby, Director of Business & Finance, received approval for 2 monetary donations to the district.  $1500 was donated for the Cub Track Team and $3000 was donated for the Marine Corp Junior ROTC program.

Dr. Jamey Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, along with the Principals from the three elementary schools and middle school presented the mid-year instructional update.  They explained how student evaluations have helped them improve the learning and test scores on their campuses.

Finally, Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson gave a short update on the Texas Legislature.  He explained that it is early in the session and what is being talked about right now will not be what is talked about in May.  Jackson did mention several bills that the district is keeping an eye on.  Senate Bill 2, which would reform property taxes is one, and another proposes to increase teacher’s salaries by $5000.
