BURTON ISD CELEBRATING SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH

Burton ISD joins 1,025 school districts throughout the state in their celebration of School Board Recognition Month.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Burton Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy thanked each of the board members for the work they do for the district.  Staff and students also recognized the board with accolades, treats, and goodies.

Dr. Kennedy said in a release the school board members are volunteers who “shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, all without pay”.  She said their goal is “always focused on the future success of the children in our district”.

Serving on the Burton ISD school board are Board President Demetrius Colvin, Sr., Board Vice President Jeff Harmel, Board Secretary Misty Lucherk, Ande Bostain, David Warner, Sr., Felton Cox, and Tracey Cox.

The Burton ISD board is responsible for an annual budget of approximately $7.5 million, 475 students, 85 employees, and three campuses.

Dr. Kennedy said Burton schools are very proud of their district academic and athletic achievements and honors, accomplished under the board’s leadership.  She said it is more important than ever that communities support public education, so that today’s students are “prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow”.
