Faith Mission welcomes its newest summer interns to Brenham.

Faith Mission has served over 55 students in its intern program, ranging from associates to doctoral level. The students have come from all over the country, and from ten universities including Blinn College, Texas A&M, University of Houston, Abilene Christian, and Sam Houston State.

This year’s nine interns all come from Prairie View A&M University. Six of them are Social Work majors: Kanaya Hayslet of Long Beach, California; LaDerica Govan of Dallas; Elijah Crockett of Dallas; Briana Reese of Bellville; Cameron Pinchback of Austin; and Haylee Severn of Caldwell.

There are also three Health and Kinesiology volunteers: Mia Wofford of Waxahachie; Ulanis Betts of Houston; and Shemar Nichols of Los Angeles, California.

Crockett says she wants to do whatever she can to give back to the community.

Betts says his experience serving others in college inspired him to do more hands-on work in the community.

Faith Mission was recently asked to participate in a reaccreditation process with the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). Dr. Ester Ogunjimi, a Prairie View A&M social work course instructor, said feedback received from the CSWE Site Visitor was that a partnership with Faith Mission was “unique and strong” in meeting the needs of its social work student interns.

The students are required to complete a ten week, 400 hour field placement practicum. They will be trained in various service areas within the organization, including shelter, food pantry, Summer SMART program, and Camp Hoblitzelle.  The program not only provides a learning environment for the students, but several live on the Faith Mission campus.
