Washington County Commissioner Joy Fuchs has been elected to a high leadership position for a national organization.

Fuchs was elected Wednesday to serve as senior vice president on the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC), during its 53^rd Annual Conference and Exhibition this week in Omaha, Nebraska, where it elected leaders for 2019-20.

Fuchs fills the position previously held by Bob Cannon of Michigan, who was elected to serve as president-elect. She has been a member of NARC’s board of directors since 2014.

Fuchs says she is honored to serve and work alongside officials from across the nation.

For over 50 years, NARC has served as a national voice for a regional approach to meeting local challenges. NARC’s member organizations are composed of multiple local governments that work together to serve American communities – large and small, urban and rural.

Fuchs is currently in her fifth term as county commissioner of Precinct 4. Prior to serving as commissioner, Fuchs was a member of the Burton School Board for 12 years, where she served as the first woman on the board.
