A Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was severely injured performing an operation in November, will soon be recognized at a ceremony in Austin.

Deputy C.J. Lehmann will receive the Star of Texas Award from Governor Greg Abbott next Wednesday, September 11th.

The award honors all Texas peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.  Over 500 Texans have been honored since the awards began in 2003.

Lehmann was severely injured in an operation with La Grange police, while attempting to serve a warrant on a wanted fugitive who had barricaded himself inside a motel room.  When the officers breached the room, the suspect fired a shotgun, hitting Lehmann in the face and eyes, and leaving him with permanent blindness.  After a four-hour standoff, the suspect was taken into custody.

Lehmann was recently recognized by State Representative Ben Leman, who presented him a resolution in recognition of his service.
