‘MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET’ NEXT UP IN BLINN THEATRE SEASON

The Blinn College-Brenham Theatre Arts Program is giving the community an early Christmas present.

The beloved Christmas classic “Miracle on 34th Street” is available for online viewing as part of Blinn’s “On the Air: Old-Time Radio Theatre” series. Free virtual tickets are available at www.blinn.edu/BoxOffice and a link will be emailed to patrons who sign up.

Blinn’s “On the Air” series combines video and audio in four performances modeled after radio plays popular in the 1940s.

“Miracle on 34th Street” is based on a 1947 film by 20th Century Fox, said Brad Nies, Theatre Arts Program Director.

“Originally produced on the ‘Lux Radio Theatre’ Series in 1948, it is about a department store Santa Claus who claims he is the real Kris Kringle,” Nies said. “As his case goes to court, a little girl’s belief makes the difference in the ‘miracle.’ It’s a beloved family classic that will melt even the most cynical of hearts.”

The play is directed by Nies and produced by Technical Theatre Arts Director Kevin Patrick. Costumes and hair are by Theatre Arts Instructor Jennifer Patrick.

Cast members are Tanner Pieper, Ashton Jeske, Alexandria Leverette, Stephanie Rivera, Casey Prowell, and Joshua Ortiz.

The stage manager is Mark Chapman II, and Maddie McDonald is assistant stage manager. Makeup is by Dustin Randolf.

The 2020-21 season opened with “The Screaming Woman.”

“The response to ‘Screaming Woman’ was great,” Nies said. “People from the community told me that they thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“Popeye and the Gang at the Zoo” will be available for free viewing beginning Feb. 26, 2021.

“Completely Hollywood (abridged)” will be streamed April 29 and April 30 at 7 p.m., and May 1 and 2 at 2 p.m. Tickets for that show will be $5, plus a convenience fee.
