WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO MULL NEW SECURITY CAMERAS FOR RURAL EMS STATIONS

Washington County Commissioners will consider the purchase of security cameras for several EMS stations at their meeting Tuesday.

The court will look to allow EMS to make a purchase from Fast Ball Integration, for cameras at the department’s satellite stations in Burton, Chappell Hill, and old Washington.

County Judge John Durrenberger said these stations are “really exposed” and have had some instances of “unwanted visitors”. EMS Director Kevin Deramus said these cameras will all assist with exterior surveillance.

A total of 21 cameras are being considered for purchase across the three stations, as well as the station on Highway 290 in Brenham. The purchase would be for $22,516, including the first five years of maintenance on the cameras.  Deramus said this purchase is accounted for in the county budget on contingency.

Deramus said getting these cameras at the rural stations are a priority, but are not the only cameras being considered. He said about another ten or 15 cameras will probably go up around next January at the station near the Washington County Fairgrounds, in addition to the one in Brenham on Highway 290.

Also in court, commissioners will consider an agreement with Idemia Identity and Security USA for a fingerprint-based background check system. The proposed electronic fingerprint system would check anyone with access to the county’s E-911 center.

The county will also consider a resolution approving the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s grant application.  In addition, it will look at extending a service contract between the Sheriff’s Office and Voice Products Services for audio/video system maintenance.

The court will also:

  • Act on the approval for a summer intern from Sam Houston State University to work in the District Attorney’s Office Victims Division and the Sheriff’s Office Jail Division.
  • Consider formal notice for a road bore at 3018 Spanish Oaks Drive for PGMS-Central Washington Water Supply Corporation in Precinct 3.
  • Look at approving a 45-day extension of 34.75 excess vacation hours for Catherine Cordeiro with the E-911 Department.
  • Go through a series of monthly reports.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
