WEIMAR POLICE DEPARTMENT K9 KILLED IN ACCIDENT

The Weimar Police Department is mourning the loss of a K9 Unit, following its death in a tragic accident.

Police K9 Lido died Sunday, due to what police say was an unpreventable accident at home.

K9 Lido, along with his handler, Officer Casey Thumann, seized over $1.5 million in narcotics.  Recently, Lido assisted in a six-hour manhunt that caught three criminals.

According to a release from the Weimar Police Department, K9 Lido was donated to the police department in 2017 by the non-profit K9s4COPs and sponsored by the Lee Lacocca family.  He was named 2018’s Newsmaker of the Year for Colorado County, and “Rookie of the Year” at the 2018 K9s4COPs Unleashed Gala.

Weimar Police Chief Todd Jacobs said K9 Lido was “an indispensable part of our department and the community as a whole”.

K9s4COPs has offered to grant the Weimar Police Department a new K9 in 2020 to supplement this loss.

There will be a memorial for K9 Lido on December 17th at 5:30 p.m., at the gazebo next to the Weimar Public Library at 1 Jackson Square.  The memorial is open to the public.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in K9 Lido’s name to https://K9s4COPs.org.
