PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETING THURSDAY

Brenham City Council will consider adding Fitness Facilities to the group of allowed business inside the new Neighborhood Business District during their meeting Thursday.  A public hearing is scheduled to discuss the issue for the new zoned area just south of downtown.  The matter was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission in February and now goes before the full City Council.  Planning and Zoning added the wording “Personal and Small Group Training Only” to the business description. The public hearing will also cover a new tax phase in requested by D Bar B Sausage and Meats at 1909 Longwood Drive.

Also on Thursday’s agenda, council will discuss an agreement with Rostan Solutions for services related to seeking reimbursements from FEMA for damage incurred during the flooding in May of 2016.  City Engineer Lori Lakatos suggested in February that council should consider hiring a firm to handle the numerous reports and filings because they were taking up too much of her and her staff’s time.

During and Executive Session scheduled after the public meeting, council members will again discuss the lease agreement between the city and the Brenham Heritage Museum.  The Museum building has been unoccupied since August of 2017 after city inspectors found numerous upgrades would be required to bring the building up to code.  Council will also discuss terminating the contract with GCP Contractors for the construction on the new bathroom facilities at Fireman’s Park.  They will consider a substitution agreement with GCP’s surety company for the construction that has been on hold since December of last year.

Also on the agenda is a request by the Brenham Housing Authority to terminate the Police Protection Agreement with the city.  City Manager James Fisher said he received a letter from the Housing Authority requesting the termination, but it did not include any other details.
